Things You Didn’t Know About The Social Networking Giant Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)

Millions of people use Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) everyday, while some believe the site is not what it once used to be, the company is growing more and more everyday.

The online social networking service headquartered in Menlo Park, California has been around since 2004. Many know how it got started with the release of The Social Network movie, even though Zuckerberg has criticized its accuracy. Still, the giant has a lot of things we don’t know about. Here are some of them.

How Much An Hour?

Ever wonder how much the social networking site makes in an hour? Well, estimates say Facebook makes over $1.8 million an hour. The company made over $4 billion the last three months and makes close to $45 million a day, most of that from advertising.

Earlier this year, Facebook announced that it had reached two million active advertisers, most of them small businesses.

Most Followed Celeb

Last year, Shakira became the first celebrity to cross over 100 million likes. That number was quickly matched by Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.

His fan club number is now over 106 million, 4 million more than Shakira.

Friend Requests Per Minute

The number of friend requests per minute is impressive, with around 100,000 people hitting that button every 60 seconds. The number won’t drop anytime soon, with more than 20,000 people using Facebook every second and over 7,000 joining the popular site everyday.

Facebook and Divorce Are Friends

Yup, not everything on the site is funny videos and friendly chats. According to a recent study, Facebook is the third major cause of divorce in the UK.

A report released a few days ago revealed that it is better to unfriend your partner on the social networking site before things get ugly. Not all agree with that, but some people think it has helped their relationship.

Countries With Most Users

Two years ago, the social networking giant revealed the list of the countries with the most Facebook users. The United States sat lonely at the top with almost 170 million members. Brazil was second with 64.6 million and India third with 62.6 million members. The last two were Indonesia and Mexico, with 51.4 and 40.2 million members each. That was two years ago, so the number is way bigger today but now you have an idea of how big it is in those places.

Facebook Messenger

Three days ago, it was revealed that Facebook Messenger is the second most popular app in the United States. Many didn’t see that one coming, especially after the amount of hate it got for being a separate download.

Messenger is only behind the Facebook app, which is impressive because it managed to pass YouTube, leaving it third on the list.

Other Cool Facts

The Social Network, a 2010 American drama film directed by David Fincher and written by Aaron Sorkin, showed the beginnings of the site and the lawsuits. Multiple people portrayed in the film have criticized it for being inaccurate.

Ivy Bean was one of the oldest people on the site. She joined Facebook when she was 102 and had almost 5,000 friends at the time of her death.
